Project
History:
Firehouse No. 1, is located in downtown Syracuse, across from City
Hall on historic Montgomery Street. This circa-1916 building was
the first "modern" firehouse made to house motorized engines. Designed
by famous Syracuse architect Archimeds Russel, the building operated
as a firehouse into the 1970's when it became a restaurant establishment.
It
has been underutilized for 15 years, its once beautiful features
now fallen into disrepair.
Challenge:
The building's historic facade, high ceilings, and wide, open spaces
made it the perfect candidate for loft-style retail and residential
space. However, the historic architecture of the building would
require special attention in order to restore its unique style to
its original condition.
Solution:
Washington St. Partners recognized this property as an untapped
resource in the revitalization of the downtown area. The three-story
building is located in an economic development and empowerment zone,
making the project financially attractive. In addition to its prime
location, the building's site houses ten parking spaces. The first
floor is leased and occupied by Corporate Interiors; both second
floor condominium units have been sold, leaving the third floor
condominium available.
Space
is still available in this unique and
historical building so be sure to check it out.
